He was born to the late Marion and Laura Derringer in San Diego, California. Jon grew up in San Diego with his brothers Jesse and Jay, along with his sister Julia. Jon married Judy in 1963 and together, they raised seven children; Michael, Miles, Julie, Heather, Karla, Lyanna and Jason.
Jon was a Master Carpenter by trade for nearly fifty years. Besides carpentry, Jon had a wide range of mechanical, hands on skills that he put to use helping others throughout his lifetime. Jon worked hard his entire life to provide for the ones he loved, never complaining or asking for anything. He and his wife Judy also raised many foster children together over their lifetime, giving them a home and love. Jon never asked for much, he was selfless and happy with the simple things in life. We will always remember him in a plain white t-shirt and shorts, wearing his tool belt, working on his classic cars or relaxing in his favorite chair with his ice tea and ashtray by his side.
Jon is survived by his brother Jay and sister Julia, along with his children Miles, Julie, Lyanna, Jason, Karla, and Heather; his grandchildren Kaleb, Gabriel, Adrian, Amber, Matthew, Steven, Christopher; great grandchildren and dozens of nieces and nephews he loved dearly.
Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, so loved, so missed, so very dear.
