Sheryl Lynn Cozby-Vomhof left us to go to God’s care suddenly and unexpectedly on July 6, 2025 at the age of 60. She spent her final hours watching the newest Jurassic Park movie (and enjoyed it !) with her Husband, Mother-in-Law, Sister-in-Law, and Nephew.
Sheryl Lynn Vomhof always went by the name Lynn. She often told the story that when she started school, and the teachers called for "Sheryl Cozby", she ignored them and kept talking to her friends because she was "Lynn", not "Sheryl".
Lynn's first job was with the San Diego Zoo in food service, a job she enjoyed, especially the popcorn carts, and especially the cart on the far side of the zoo so that she got to ride the sky tram ride to and from the cart. She enjoyed the work, she enjoyed the people - both co-workers and customers, and she REALLY enjoyed the animals.
After completing her Associate degree in Animal Health Technology, she entered the BioTech field working for Hybritech in their nude mice area. She went from someone who had no allergies, to an extensive list due to the exposure to the mouse dander. However, the people she worked with appreciated her and her attitude, which led to her being contacted, dare I say recruited to her next job working with cell culture .... so, no allergy worries. From there she had a long run working both in cell culture and later, as a document reviewer and an interface between the science end and the purchasing end. EVERYONE appreciated her attention to detail as well as her ability to communicate and keep a (for the most part) a smile on her face. For her stint in the Biotech field though, she felt the most gratification in the work she did at Advanced Bio Healing/Shire working on treatment for diabetic foot ulcers.
Lynn and Dan began dating in 1981 while Lynn was still in high school. After many years together they made it official and married on August 15, 1992. Everyone who knew them knew how much they loved each other, relied on each other, and worked as a team together. After 15 years of dedicated work at Ligand she was awarded a cruise for her and Dan to go to Alaska. This was a very fond memory along with many other trips taken to see family, Dan's conferences, and fun.
Lynn lost her mother, Karen, in 2014, her father, Robert, in 2017, her Aunt Sheryl, in 2018, and her Aunt Sharren in 2024. She is survived by her Uncle James Wright (her mother's brother), her brother Brian David Cozby, and her husband Daniel William Vomhof III.
Lynn enjoyed scrapbooking, card making, genealogy, and going to their conventions. She also got great satisfaction from being able to help her husband in his work.
In all of her jobs, she was glad that she was doing meaningful work that contributed to society and bettering people's lives, not working just to improve cosmetics. Lynn loved animals and enjoyed watching videos of pandas and the various otter YouTube channels (search for Aty, Ui, Kotaro, & Hana) When we think of her, we think of her smile and her sweet giggly laugh.
Lynn will be missed by everyone she knows, and as much as we miss her, we can take comfort that she is now in a better place. While few have ever heard her complaints, she no longer has to deal with her autoimmune and related trach issues, nor the almost constant low-grade pain and breathing issues she has had to live with for the last 5 years.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 24th, 2025, at Atonement Lutheran Church (10245 Loma Rancho Drive, Spring Valley, CA 91977) Viewing from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm with the funeral service at 6:30 pm. The funeral will be live streamed. To join the service in that manner, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBP6529d9FM
