Mrs. Foster was born May 4, 1917 in LaGrange, daughter of the late Jim and Ida Valeri. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Mrs. Foster and her husband, Claude “Eachie” Foster, were the first couple to be married in the old St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Church Street on June 20, 1938. She was Miss LaGrange in 1937 and proceeded to the state competition where she became the 1st runner-up in Miss Georgia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Claude Frank “Frankie” Foster and two sisters, Mary Hadaway and Nannie Valeri.
Mrs. Foster volunteered as a Pink Lady at West Georgia Medical Center for many years and was a founding member of the Ladies Golf Association at Highland Country Club. She was an avid bridge player and wonderful seamstress. She was known for her famous Spaghetti Dinners and her fabulous cooking. Having grown up in Italy until she was 11 years of age, Mrs. Foster was proud of her Italian Heritage but mainly proud of being an American. And last but not least, she loved the Georgia Bulldogs.
Survivors include her husband of 74 years, Claude “Eachie” Foster; two children, James Sidney “Jimbo” Foster and his wife Nancy of LaGrange and Cecilia Edwards and her husband David of Atlanta, GA; eight grandchildren, Tripp (Staci) Foster, Linny (Lindsey) Foster, and Sidney (Rachel) Foster, all of LaGrange, Kasey (Adam) Bittner of Atlanta, GA, Nicholas Foster of Portland, OR, Foster (Corrinne) Edwards of Norfolk, VA, Frank Edwards of Houston, TX, and Mary Adeline Edwards of Orlando, FL; four great grandchildren, Ali Foster, Cal Foster, Sarah Bittner, and Ansley Bittner; one brother, Americo Richard Valeri of Tampa, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Mass was held 11:00 A.M. today, March 4, 2013 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Father Patrick Scully officiated. Burial followed in Shadowlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church in memory of Mrs. Adeline Valeri Foster.
