Aubrey Preston “Wes” Westmoreland was born January 10, 1950, in Griffin, Georgia to Vera and Winfred Westmoreland. “Wes” passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023 at Hospice LaGrange. He graduated from Griffin High School, earned his B.A. from West Georgia College and a Masters from LaGrange College. After a 30 year career in retail with the J.C. Penney Company and Mansours, Aubrey found his true calling as a teacher and coach at Heard County Middle School. He is well-remembered by his students for his Georgia History “stories”. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church LaGrange and also the Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed reading and loved following his son’s and grandchildren’s sporting and dance events.
Aubrey is survived by his wife Anne Sullins Westmoreland; Sons, John (Fiona) Westmoreland and Steve (Amber) Westmoreland: grandchildren, Mary Maddox Westmoreland, Grady Westmoreland, Hailey Westmoreland and Carter Westmoreland; sister-in-law, Beth (Robin) Hughes; brothers-in-law, Hugh (Annette) Sullins, and Robert (Karol) Sullins, nieces and nephews
A private family memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, West Georgia Hospice or the charity of choice.
