

Bruce was born September 28, 1939, in Farmington, Connecticut, the son of Francis Nelson and Lillian Buteau Beaudin. He graduated from Farmington High School and earned degrees from the Seminary of the Congregation of the Passion, Fairfield University, and Georgetown University Law Center.
Bruce devoted his career to public service. He led the Legal Aid Agency and later served as Director of the D.C. Pretrial Services Agency, where he was a national leader in bail reform and criminal justice innovation. In 1984 he was appointed to the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, where he helped establish what became known as “Drug Court.” He served the Court as a Superior Court Judge until he retired, then assuming Senior Judge status.
Bruce was known for his fairness, compassion, humor, and deep belief in equal justice. He treasured time with family and loved the outdoors (except snakes) and particularly enjoyed golfing and fly-fishing.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Peggy Malcom; siblings Carolyn (Koichi) Hamada, Thomas (Marlene) Beaudin, and Stephen (Liz) Beaudin; children Christopher (Sarah) Beaudin, Kelly Beaudin (Jim) Conlan, Fauve (Sean) Roberts, Sabrina (Trae) Regan, Steven Wayne (Jennifer) Stone, and Michael (Sierra) Stone ; his mother-in-law Mary Malcom; nine grandchildren;7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Brian, his father Francis Nelson Beaudin, his mother Lillian Buteau “Bobbi” Beaudin, and his father-in-law W. L. “Dub” Malcom.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday, December 20, 2025, in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in LaGrange, GA. The Service will begin at 11:00 AM. with Rev. Dr. Mike Reeves officiating.
