Carolyn was born on February 18, 1938, to George Robert Rakestraw and Ruth Mallory Rakestraw. She grew up in LaGrange and was a graduate of LaGrange High School. She later attended South Georgia College.
Carolyn married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Copeland, and together they built a loving family and raised two daughters. She treasured her role as a mother and later found great joy in being a grandmother. Her grandson, Brandon, held a very special place in her heart and lovingly called her “Mimi.”
Carolyn found happiness in the simple things in life. Early in life she enjoyed the company of her horses. She enjoyed gardening and reading, and she had a special love for her dogs and cats. Her home and heart were always filled with the things and people she loved. She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of LaGrange.
Carolyn is survived by her daughters, Carol Ann Kinzer (Steve) and Kay Thompson (Alan); her grandson, Brandon Hale (Mary Margaret); bonus grandchildren, Tyler Thompson, Tanner Thompson (Morgan), and Tavin Thompson (Meg); as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Vernon Woods Community, Florence Hand Home, and West Georgia Hospice for the exceptional care, compassion, and grace they extended to Carolyn and her family.
A private memorial service will be held by the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Lagrange or to West Georgia Hospice in memory of Carolyn R. Copeland.
All arrangements are made by Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 1010 Mooty Bridge Road, LaGrange, GA 30240 (706) 884-8636.
