

Mr. Avery was born January 10, 1922 at home in the Jones Crossroads Community, in northern Harris County, GA, son of the late Curtis Bryan Avery, Sr. and Lois Stripling Avery. He joined Union Baptist Church at the age of five years old, and was a faithful member and Deacon. Mr. Avery proudly served his country in the United States Army. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from the University of Georgia and was proud to be called a Cattleman. Mr. Avery helped start the Georgia Holstein Association and was Regional Vice President of the American National Cattleman’s Association, serving several years on the Executive Committee. He was instrumental in organizing People’s Bank of LaGrange and serving on the Board, even when the name was changed to SunTrust, until mandatory retirement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Freeman Avery.
Survivors include his son, Hal (Maurine) Avery; daughter, Pam Avery; grandchildren, Sage (Alex) Weatherby, Zak (Amanda) Avery, Charlie Bailey; great grandchildren, Sybil and Elyse Weatherby; special friend, Pal Reeves; other relatives and friends.
The Gathering of Family and Friends will be Friday, June 3, 2016 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the home of Mr. Curtis B. Avery, 7475 GA Hwy 18, Pine Mountain, GA 31822. The Funeral service will be 11:00am Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Union Baptist Church with Brother Tom Owensby and Pastor Preston Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
