David Allen Downs

Born on October 26, 1969, in Athens, Georgia—the city of his beloved Georgia Bulldogs—David was the son of W.C. Downs and Linda Poole. From an early age, David displayed the strength and spirit that would define his life.

A proud veteran, David served his country with honor during the Gulf War as a member of the United States Army. He carried that same sense of duty, loyalty, and resilience into every aspect of his life.

David was a devoted husband, son, and friend. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his family and loved ones. Whether cheering on the Atlanta Falcons or the Georgia Bulldogs, grilling some good food for his people, relaxing with his toes in the sand at the beach, or simply enjoying the company of his furry companions, David lived fully and loved deeply.

He will be remembered for his warm heart, fighting spirit, and unwavering devotion to those he held dear.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Wesley Downs.

David is survived by his loving wife, Shelly Downs; his father W.C. Downs; Mother Linda Poole; sister-in-law Theresa Woodard, his lifelong friend and “brother from another mother,” Bobby (Candy) Clay; and a host of extended family, friends, and beloved fur babies who will miss him dearly.
