
Mr. Parker was born October 5, 1954 in Hamilton, GA, son of the late Delford Floyd Parker and Ruth Orr Parker. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of LaGrange where he served in the Choir, as an Elder, and as Church Treasurer. Mr. Parker was a past member of Pine Mountain First United Methodist Church where he served as a member of the Choir, Treasurer, and Administrative Board Chairman. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Joel F. Parker, sister, Jane Parker Hett, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Ginny Parnell. Mr. Parker was a wonderful and loving husband, father, and brother who loved God, his family and friends, being on the water in his boat, playing golf, and University of Georgia football.
Mr. Parker proudly worked in public education as a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Government Financial Manager for over 30 years. During this time he served as Director of Accounting and Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer in Dalton Public Schools, Troup County School System, and Muscogee County School District, and then for the Georgia Department of Education as an Accounting Manager serving school systems across the state with support, guidance, and supervision in financial matters.
Mr. Parker served as a Fellow of The Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants, Inc. and was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He also served as Past President of Georgia Association of Schools Business Officials from 1994-1995; Past President of Southeastern Association of School Business Officials from 2002-2003; Board of Trustees with the Risk Management Self Insurance Program, Georgia School Board Association; and Leadership Troup Class of 1995 and Leadership Darlington Class of 2014.
Survivors include his wife, Lennice P. Parker of LaGrange; children, Jacob (Tracie) Parker of Hamilton, GA, Libby (Scott Aldridge) Parker of Valdosta, GA, and Leighton Parker; grandchildren, Conner McDaniel and Cooper Parker of Hamilton, GA; brother, Max (Winky) Parker of Pine Mountain, GA; sister-in-law, Shirley Parker of Richmond, VA; brother-in-law, Carl Hett of Columbus, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Clark and Jenni Parnell of Newnan, GA; and nieces and nephews, Joel and Katie Parker, Abigail Parker, Jennie and Chris Bryan, Capp and Brandi Hett, Katlynn Parnell, Conner Parnell, and Hannah Parnell.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. Friday, February 19, 2016 at Pine Mountain United Methodist Church with Dr. John A. Beyers officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Mountain Cemetery. The gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to LaGrange Personal Aid, Harmony House, or Salvation Army in memory of Mr. Del Parker.
