Betty was born December 18, 1939 in Lancaster, PA. Daughter of the late John R. Campbell and Margaret D. Campbell, she precedes in death by her brother John Campbell, Step sister Alice “Snutzie” Foltz and granddaughter Laura Lee Duncan. She graduated from J. P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster, PA. After high school she attend college, majoring in Cosmetology. Later she found a job as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Lancaster. After completing her work as a telephone operator in Lancaster, Betty packed up and moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast with a friend, where she met her future husband. After meeting, dating and marrying Barry. They had 2 children Libby and Leslie. As a hobby she bred and showed Shelties. Later in her life she travelled extensively with her husband and family including several overseas journeys.
After her retirement, she volunteered at the Salvation Army in LaGrange, where she made a few friends and enjoyed her time there.
Betty had an infectious smile that could light up a room. To her daughters there has never been a more perfect mother.
To her grandchildren they were spoiled with love and there was never any doubt of her love for her husband and family.
Betty’s love did not stop there; she was the kindest soul to any puppy or other animal. She always surrounded herself with her babies and treated them as family.
Betty was a good, honest, beautiful person. She will be truly missed.
Betty is survived by her husband, Barry E. Smith; children, Libby Anne Bell “Libby and Ralph”; Leslie Smith and 2 grandchildren Karlie and Johnny; Sisters Carole Campbell, Linda Cain “Linda and Daryl” and Kathy Thomas “Kathy and Jeff”
A gathering of family and friends will be on Saturday, January 30, 2021 from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary.
