

Mr. Knight was born on December 24, 1914, to Walter and Effie Knight. He was twice widowed, first by Susie Neely Knight and again by Cora Ford Knight. The eldest of five siblings, he was preceded in death by brothers Charlie Knight, Harold Knight, and Tom L. Knight, and by sister Virginia Knight Watterson. His infant daughter Betty Jean Knight and his grandson Michael Knight also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his sons Ernest James Knight, Jr., Bobby Knight (Barbara), and David Knight (Lisa); his grandsons Matthew, Adam (Kasel), Joshua (Jaime), and Joseph (Sara); and his great-grandchildren Alexander, Isla, and August.
Mr. Knight grew up farming, which continued even after his going to work for Callaway Mills upon completing eighth grade. After serving in the U.S. Army during WWII, he returned to LaGrange to work in the textile industry until retiring in the 1970s. He was a fan of the Georgia Bulldogs for nearly all of his 100 years.
A funeral service will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary at 11:00 am Tuesday, March 3, 2015. Interment will follow at Shadowlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Striffler-Hamby. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Georgia Hospice, 1510 Vernon Road, LaGrange, GA 30240.
