Ernest Fred 'Cat' Thompson

Mr. Thompson was born April 27, 1912 in Chipley, Georgia, son of the late Lemuel Nathaniel Thompson and Mary Lou Middlebrooks Thompson. He was employed at Callaway Mills / Milliken and Company, where he worked at the Calumet and Unity Plants; and owned and operated Thompson’s Trading Post for many years. Mr. Thompson was a member of Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Ledford Thompson; and by a daughter, Carol Thompson.

Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Norred; a son, LaVaughn (Belinda) Thompson; granddaughters, Lorrie (Terry) Hester and Paige (Jason) Clifton; three great-grandchildren, Brian (Kayleigh) Hester, Brent (Samantha) Hester, and Hannah Clifton ; three great-great-grandchildren, Trent Hester, Tanner Hester, and Makinley Hester; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, LaGrange Chapel with Rev. John Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
