

Born May 26, 1935 in LaGrange, GA to the late George C. Smith and Mildred Mills Smith, Gordon attended school in LaGrange, GA and graduated from Lagrange High School in 1953. He then attended Emory University and was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity; he graduated in 1957 with a degree in Economics.
After serving in the US Army Reserve, Gordon pursued a degree in Pharmacy and graduated from Auburn University School of Pharmacy in 1961. While at Auburn, he was a member of Phi Delta Chi Professional Fraternity and Rho Chi Honorary Fraternity. In 1960, Gordon met Martha Frances Pope from Villa Rica, GA and they married on September 11, 1960.
Gordon was a licensed pharmacist in Georgia and Alabama and began his career at Brown Drug Co. in Roanoke, AL. In 1963, he returned to his hometown of LaGrange, GA to work at the family pharmacy, Smith Hillside. In 1969, he expanded the family business to Three Points, acquiring Freeman Drug Co., becoming Smith Three Points Pharmacy. In 1990, he sold Smith Three Points to Eckerd Pharmacy. In 2002, he became a relief pharmacist at Pine Mountain Pharmacy, Corley Drugs, and CVS.
Gordon dedicated 56 years to a career in pharmacy and serving people in his community and beyond. He was passionate about his work with the Heart of West Georgia, serving on the board for many years. He was a friend to all and was known for his stories, many of which came from his eleven summers as a camper and supervisor at Athens Y Camp. Gordon loved the game of golf and was a member of Highland Country Club for more than 80 years. He was also a cherished member of Wesley Methodist Church. Above all, he is known for his devotion to his wife Martha and their three sons.
He is survived by his sons, Skip (Julie) and Sykes (Letisha) and his four grandchildren; Henry (Curry), Olivia, Trent, and Mary Frances, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Martha, son Parker, and brother Pat (Jerry.)
