Mr. Camp was born October 26, 1925 in Moreland, GA, son of the late James Hugh Marion Camp and Sonora Polk Camp. He was a graduate of Alabama Polytechnic College, graduating in 1949 (which was the last graduating class before the school officially changed their name to Auburn University). Mr. Camp was a member of First United Methodist Church of LaGrange where he served on several committees and boards and was a member of the Adult Fellowship Sunday School Class, a lifetime member of the Surveying and Mapping Society of Georgia and received the Lifetime Achievement Award in July 2005, and was a former Scout Leader for over 25 years, receiving the Silver Beaver award. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during which time he served in War World II and the Pacific Theatre. Mr. Camp was the owner of Camp and Associates Land Surveying, P.C.
A native of Coweta County, Georgia; Mr. Camp had been a practicing surveyor for over 60 years- still going to the office and signing plats in his last week of life. "Mr. Hugh" as he was affectionately called, was recognized for his knowledge of thousands of tracts of area properties, his surveys of noted developments including the LaGrange Industrial Park and the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport runway expansions, and precise maps of city and county utilities infrastructure. From the 1950’s to the 2000’s Mr. Camp and his loyal team of associates did a number of large surveying jobs around the Southeast into the Midwest. He always strove to provide the highest quality of services to each client.
