James Otis Shirey

Mr. Shirey was born September 24, 1935, son of the late James Olin and Mary Edna Daniel Shirey. He had been a resident of LaGrange for the past 67 years and 7 years in Franklin, GA as a child. Mr. Shirey was retired from the City of LaGrange, Gas Department. Through the years, he was also employed by LaGrange Foundry, McKenzie Tank Lines, Daniel Construction, and Kimberly Clark. He was Methodist by faith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shirey was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Ellen Langford, Betty Jean Upchurch, and Alton Shirey.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Janelle Langford Shirey of LaGrange; daughter, Tammy Renee Shirey Waites and her husband, Rickey Waites; and two grandsons, Josh and Ryan Waites, all of Salem, AL; two sisters, Hazel Awbrey and her husband, Tom, of Franklin and Margaret Sloan of LaGrange; two sisters-in-law, Sandra Langford Madore and Marie Langford Janney both of LaGrange; brother-in-law, Eugene Langford of LaGrange; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, June 4, 2010 in Shadowlawn Cemetery with Reverend Mitchell Smith officiating.

The family will be at the home of his wife, Janelle Shirey, and will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
