Jimmy L. Burgess Jr.

Jimmy was the oldest of six children born to the late J.L. Burgess and Minnie Burgess of the Rosemont community. He graduated from Rosemont High School in 1941 and attended business school in Atlanta until 1943 when he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served as an air to ground radio operator, attaining the rank of Sergeant, until 1946. He also played on the Army Air Corp baseball team as a third baseman. He married the late Ethelyn Alice Morgan in 1946. He worked with Tom Stanley in LaGrange for 5 years and in 1951 began working with Hiram Reeves Wholesale Produce until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of Dunson United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his 4 brothers, Olin, Raymond, Roy and Billy Burgess.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Joe Gore; grandchildren, Elizabeth Zirkle (Roland) and Thomas Gore (Amy); great grandchildren, Benjamin and William Zirkle. He is also survived by a sister, Barbara Short, and several nieces and nephews.

A private burial will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at Dunson United Methodist Church with Dr. Dan Crawford officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Dunson United Methodist Church, 11 Barnard Avenue, LaGrange, GA 30241.
