Joseph L. Lanier Jr. was born February 9, 1932. Other than his years in the army, he remained a resident of the Chattahoochee Valley area. He worked for and led West Point Pepperell from 1957 to 1989. He worked for and led Dan River from 1989 to 2005. Afterward, he was an advisor to some Georgia-based companies for another 10 years. Such was his passion for textile manufacturing and enjoyment of being with his co-workers that he never intended to retire.
Joe Jr loved traveling with his family, fishing, hunting, and golfing. He worshipped at Spring Road Christian Church and more recently, First Baptist Church of Columbus, GA. Given his devotion to family, country, work, and the Christian faith, Joe Jr was blessed to have lived a southern life.
He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph L. Lanier Sr. and Lura Brown Fowlkes Lanier.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, two sisters, two children, and three grandchildren.
The funeral service for Joseph L. Lanier Jr. will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to First Baptist Church of Columbus, 212 12th Street, Columbus, GA 31901.
