She loved the homeplace where her husband, Jack Freeman of nearly fifty years, had lived as a boy. Her days were filled with caring for her wild birds, deer, and turkeys as well as friends and family. She joked about having no quail at Quail Hill. She did, however, have dogs and cats. Many a stray cat found a kind companion at Quail Hill who could not leave one of God’s creatures cold, hungry, or homeless - not to mentioned unloved. Kathleen chose kindness first.
Kathleen was born March 1, 1927 in Crawfordville, Georgia to Lucy and Earl Lucas. She graduated from Newnan High School and Shorter College; and she taught French, Spanish, and English at LaGrange High School. Kathleen and Jack opened Freeman’s Furniture Store in 1950. They managed the store until 1995. She enjoyed reading and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed tending to her flowers and got great pleasure out of discovering an unexpected wildflower. Her favorite of all her plants were her hydrangeas.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Lucy and Earl Lucas, her siblings, and their spouses; Earl and Pat Lucas of Manakin-Sabot, VA; Ray and Willene Lucas of Merritt Island, FL; and, Basil Lucas of Bainbridge, GA.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Ann Lucas of Forsyth, Ga; and, her sister-in-law, Phyllis Lucas (Mrs. Basil Lucas). She will be terribly missed by her nieces, nephews and dear friends.
