Lawton Lamar Cowart, age 78, of LaGrange, Georgia passed away on Friday June 29, 2018. Lawton was born July 23, 1939 in Anderson, South Carolina to the late Joseph Leonard Cowart, Sr. and Beatrice Gary Cowart.
Mr. Cowart retired from West Point Pepperell after 22 years and served as Plant Manager. Mr. Cowart served in the US Army for six years and also a graduate of Clemson University in 1966 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Textile Management and Technology. He was a member of the baseball team with Clemson University and selected as a first team ACC player. He also was an avid Outdoorsman that loved to fish and hunt.
Lawton is survived by; son, Kevin and Leigh Cowart; and daughter Lori and Richard Fuller; sister Brenda and Jack Thrasher and sister-in-law Lib Cowart; grandchildren, Justin Neighbors, Kevin Neighbors, and Ryan Fuller.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph Leonard Cowart, Jr. and Harold Major Cowart.
The gathering of family and friends for Lawton will be held Sunday, July 1, 2018 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A celebration of life service will be Sunday, July 1, 2018 at 4:00 PM. With Dr. Mike Reeves officiating.
