Born on July 31, 1947, to Mr. Thomas H. and Mrs. Galdys J. Beard in Forest, MS, Jane was the youngest of 3 children and the only girl. She was a 1964 graduate of Brandon High School and attended the Mississippi College for Women.
Jane held a number of positions throughout her life, notably with Delta Air Lines as a Reservation Sales Agent. It was there that her path first crossed with the man who would become her husband, Thomas Hornsby “Tom” Greer. Tom called Delta to book a flight and happened to reach Jane. Taken aback by the voice on the other end of the telephone, he asked her on a date—and from that telephone call began a love story that would last for decades.
Jane and Tom were married for nearly 36 years and together raised four children: Dr. Elizabeth Bozeman (Lee), Marguerite Dodson (Russ), Rebecca Jane Greer, and Thomas Hornsby Greer II. They shared their lives together until Tom’s passing in 2005.
Jane was also well known throughout LaGrange for her legendary cooking. For years, she shared that gift through Something Special, Inc., her beloved shop at Lee's Crossing where she prepared food, created gift baskets, and helped make countless holidays, celebrations, and special occasions a little more special. Her cooking became a favorite of generations of LaGrange families, and what began as a talent in the kitchen became one of the many ways Jane showed her love and care for others.
Above all, Jane truly lived life to the fullest. She treasured her family, her friends, and the countless relationships she formed throughout her life. Jane had a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her, and her larger-than-life personality made her truly one of a kind. She was deeply loved by so many and will be missed beyond measure. There simply will never be another Jane.
Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tom; her parents; and brothers; Beverly Ray Beard and Thomas R. Beard. She is survived by her four children; her grandchildren; Lawson William Womble and Maggie Elizabeth Manus (Matthew); her beloved dogs, Shepard and Kappi, who were her constant companions; her dear and special friend, Samuel R. Shaw; and a host of extended family members and friends who loved her dearly.
A private, family service will be held at a later date. Those wishing to do something in Jane's memory are asked to donate to your local humane society or animal shelter.
