The "Angel among our midst", passed away on April 25, 2012 , after a short battle with cancer. Maynard was born in LaGrange, GA, but moved to Pensacola, FL at a very young age, attended elementary through high school here, then returned to GA. to reside. Joined the U.S, Army and served as Military Police for 11 yrs. 6 mos. He served in Germany & two tours in Vietnam. During this time, he received The National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, 2 Overseas Service Bars, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Rifle M16, Expert Qualification Badge, Pistol 45 Cal., Expert Qualification Badge. Maynard returned to Pensacola, was employed with the Escambia County District School Board Maintenance Dept. and retired after 27 years. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed golf.
He is preceded in death by his father, David J. Brand, Sr., mother, Gracie Myrtle Flournoy, brothers, David J. Brand,Jr and George Brand. Left to cherish and enjoy his memories are his deivoted and caring sisters, Annie (Randy) Moan; Mamie (Lon) Hevia; step-brother, Bill (Jan) Adkison; wonderful nephews; Grady (Crystal) Miller, Anthony Marsh, Raymond Brand, George (Monica) Turnquist, Alan and Dean Turnquist, adorable nieces; Audie Marsh, Andrea (George) Shahin, Babara (Owen) Brown, Jodie Turnquist; 11 great grand nephews and 6 great grand nieces; a host of cousins and great cousins: his caring and loving girlfriend, Sandy Handley, and last but not least, his friends and acquaintances (Woodsie's Hilltop Gang).
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 30th, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. Graveside services will be held at Mountville Cemetery with military honors on May 1st at 11:00 a.m. Striffler-Hamby Mortuary www.shlagrange.com
