Anne and I were very close for various reasons. 

I remember the moment I met her.
She was very quiet then and I gave her a drawing of her two favorite characters doing a little high five. 

After that we became friends. 
We went through a lot together. We had our arguments and our silences.

She sparked a lot of change in me. And after even longer I believe I did the same for her. We've exchanged laughter, tears, and secrets we'll never tell. 

She was dedicated to her interests in medicine, criminal documentaries and her love for country music. 

We bonded over shared interests like favorite internet personalities, and…biases against people we weren't fond of. 

She would occasionally mention how short her time on Earth may be, but I really hoped I wouldn't lose her this soon.

I don't think there will be another someone like her. She was a close and dear friend, and I'll remember the memories we shared until the end of time. 

By the time I met Megan, she was already a cancer patient, that’s how we met, actually— an online support group for young cancer patients and caregivers.  

I was chatting with her before her first Emory appointment, and kinda giving her some ideas of things she might want to have in a bag, because with what they were saying her cancer might be, I foresaw the possibility that she would be admitted for treatment.  She gave me the nickname “cancer mom.”

Over the next months, she and I would chat when she was up for it.  In the beginning, she preferred voice because she didn’t like being alone in a room, so I tried to be around for that.  As her treatment progressed, I still checked in on her.  She introduced many people to squishmallows, myself included, and inspired by that, I have sent some off into the world to mutual friends and more than a few to her.  

Megan wanted to fight.  Her diagnosis was very scary, but she was determined to give it her best.  

I am so sorry for your loss, and I thank you for sharing this wonderful young lady with the world.  I wish I could have known her longer.

We talked about musicals, Disney and so much more, but there’s a line in the musical “Wicked”. — “Who can say if I’ve been changed for the better?”  “I do believe I have been changed for the better.”  “Because I knew you, I have been changed for good.”

Rest in Peace, Megan.
