Myrna Prather Welborn was known as many things to many people. She was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, Myrna will be remembered as a very exceptional person.

Myrna was born on February 12, 1935 at home in LaGrange, Georgia. She was the daughter of Bennie Lee (Bill) and Alva Prather. Myrna grew up in LaGrange.

Myrna was raised with nine siblings. She had four older brothers: David, Donald, Bobby, Buddy, one older sister, Lois, and she had four younger sisters: Frances, Mary, Brenda, and Jane. Myrna was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her siblings. She and her siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.

As a young girl, Myrna had a number of interests. Like most children, she enjoyed playing and making up games. She was curious about the world around her and was often eager to explore it. In her spare time she liked paper dolls. Myrna's memorable achievements included. However, to Myrna, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with her friends.

Always considered a “good” friend to those she knew, Myrna enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during her lifetime. While growing up, some of her best friends were Jerldine Yates and Grace Andrews. Later in life, she became friends with Mallie Welborn.

On April 18, 1951 Myrna exchanged wedding vows with Lester Calvin Welborn at Franklin County Courthouse of Franklin, Georgia. Empathic and loyal, Myrna was committed to making her new family happy.

Myrna worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Myrna was blessed with five children, three daughters: Dale, Justine, Theresa and two sons: Ronnie Calvin and Ronnie Eugene. Another blessing for Myrna was the gift of seven grandchildren, Chris, Timothy, Michael, Trina, Jonathan, Brittany, and Drew.

Fortunately, Myrna enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Myrna worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Myrna was in the textile industry. She was employed for 45 years by Milliken Company. Myrna always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.

Myrna enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuit was baking cakes. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others.

Myrna’s faith was important to her. She was a member of Baptist Tabernacle for 49 years. During that time, she was involved in Lighthouse Keeper.

Myrna enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for her to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

Myrna was a lover of animals and cherished her pets. One of her favorites was Silver, a Collie.

They were best friends for she had this dog for 15 years.

When Myrna’s retirement finally arrived in 2001, she was well prepared. Her new life involved staying in LaGrange. In retirement, she found new pleasure in baking, fishing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Even in retirement, Myrna continued to stay in touch with her old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Myrna was active in her new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered her.

Myrna passed away on May 3, 2018 at home in LaGrange. Myrna got very sick. She fought to stay alive as long as she could. She couldn't eat, and she didn't drink very much. Finally, Myrna realized she just wanted to go home to be with her Lord and her family. She is survived by her children: Dale, Justine, Theresa, and Ronnie, her grandchildren: Chris, Timothy, Michael, Trina, Jonathan, Brittany, Drew, her 12 great grandchildren, and her three great, great grandchildren. Services were held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in LaGrange, Georgia. Myrna was laid to rest in Restlawn Memory Gardens in LaGrange.

Simply stated, Myrna was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Myrna leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Myrna Prather Welborn.
