

Mrs. Simonton, a native of Tucker, Georgia, was the daughter of the late J.B. Irvin and Edrie Freeman Irvin.
Mrs. Simonton was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Clifford Simonton, whom she married on April 29, 1961. She is survived by a son, Jay Clifford Simonton and wife Amy of Newnan, Georgia, daughter Joy Aleese Simonton of Athens, Georgia and her precious granddaughters, Sara Kaitlin Simonton, Mary Kathryne Simonton, Hannah Elise Simonton and Bethany Faith Simonton, all of Newnan. She is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Long of Loganville, Georgia, brother Thomas Irvin and his wife Pam of Sacramento, California and brother Myron "Sonny" Irvin of Sparta, Georgia. She is also survived by four nieces, two nephews, and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by a nephew, David Simonton.
Mrs. Simonton was born in Bethlehem, Georgia on July 15, 1940. She was raised in Tucker, Georgia and graduated from Tucker High School in 1958. She attended nursing school at the Grady School of Nursing in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated in 1961 as a Registered Nurse. She specialized in Labor and Delivery and worked in Atlanta, Georgia, Alexander City, Alabama and most recently in LaGrange working with Drs. Joseph Dolan and Jones Miller. After her retirement from nursing, Nancy bought the Lighthouse Christian Bookstore and operated this store for ten years before retirement. She witnessed to many people from many churches in LaGrange and treasured this time in her life. Nancy reconnected with long lost classmates from Grady Nursing School and loved traveling and visiting with "The Grady Girls". Nancy’s hobbies included mahjong and bridge and she enjoyed getting together with her much loved group of friends weekly to play both. She also was part of a group of ladies who she enjoyed swimming with in the summers affectionately known as "The Bathing Beauties".
Nancy was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square in LaGrange for more than 40 years and loved her Sunday School Class and attending Wednesday night supper with her friends. Nancy also enjoyed volunteering with West Georgia Hospice.
Nancy’s family would like to thank the medical staff and caregivers of West Georgia Medical Center, Northside Hospital, Emory University, West Georgia Dialysis, LaGrange Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and West Georgia Hospice for being so good to her. The family would also like to say thank you to the loyal friends who have been so wonderful and loving to our family during Nancy’s illness.
The family will receive visitors at Striffler Hamby Mortuary on Monday, May 7, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church on the Square, with interment services at Restlawn Memorial Gardens following. The family will receive visitors at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church FellowshipHall prior to the services. The Reverend Paul Blair will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Georgia Dialysis or West Georgia Hospice, both places which treated Nancy so well.
