Mr. Hendrick was born January 15, 1940 in Hogansville, GA, son of the late Joseph Brown Hendrick and Ruby Anna Schmidt Hendrick. He was a graduate of LaGrange High School class of 1960. He was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church and attended Loyd Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hendrick was a 1993 Worshipful Master of Masonic Union Lodge #28 F&AM, was a member of the Yarrab Shrine Temple of Atlanta, the Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, and the LaGrange Shrine Club where he served as past president in 1991. He volunteered as a “road runner” to drive the children to and from the Shriners Hospital for Children, Cincinnati Burn Center, Cincinnati, OH. In addition to his community involvement and dedication with many organizations, Mr. Hendrick was an avid golfer and gardener and a camping enthusiast who loved to travel.
Mr. Hendrick retired from the U. S. National Guard, 560th Engineer Battalion, as a Staff Sergeant, after 23 years of service. He was employed with the Georgia Department of Transportation as an engineer and retired after 34 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Rogene Grier Hendrick of LaGrange; daughter, Serena Hendrick Norris and her husband Michael “Mickey” Anthony Norris of LaGrange; son, Michael Robert Hendrick and his wife Nancy Atkinson Hendrick of Baton Rouge, LA; three grandsons, Dillon Kendall Norris, Denver Morgan Norris, both of LaGrange, and George Hugh Hendrick of Baton Rouge, LA; three sisters, Barbara Crowe, Elaine Marterella, and Shelby Hendrick; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Loyd Presbyterian Church with Reverend Rix Threadgill and Reverend Max McCord officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Loyd Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The gathering of family and friends will be on Friday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Serena and Mickey Norris.
