Shirley was known by everyone who loved her as a true workaholic, never afraid of hard work and always staying busy. When she wasn't working, she enjoyed soaking up the sunshine, taking trips to Biloxi to visit the casinos, cheering on the Atlanta Braves, and spending time with those she loved most. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed relaxing at home while watching game shows, with a special fondness for the classic shows she grew up with.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Akery and Lucille Brown; her son, Ricky Ashley; her grandson, Scott Foster; her sisters, Margie Daniel and Janet Barthelot; and her brothers, Rufus Akery and Tony Akery.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Brenda (Larry) Jennings, Debbie (Tim) Brooks, and Dorothy Jackson; her daughter-in-law, Debra Ashley; her grandchildren, Angel (Kasey) Worrells, Crystal (Jeremy) Bolt, Clint (Kip) Caraway-Burns, Deana Stuart, Christina (Chris) Zolomy, Matthew Jackson, Ricky (Kim) Ashley, Jr., and Jennifer (Jason) Blankenship; her sisters, Dorothy Ashley, Joyce (Chance) Dickey, and Patricia Akery; and her brother, John Akery, Jr.
She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Though she will be deeply missed, Shirley's strong work ethic, love for life, and devotion to her family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
