Mrs. Ayers was born May 27, 1954 in Rome, GA. She was a member of First Baptist Church on the Square, and the Explorer’s Bible study class. She was accomplished both in her education and her career in the medical community. She received her Associate Nursing Degree from LaGrange College in 1987. She received a Bachelor of Science Nursing degree in 1997, graduating Cum Laude. In 2001 Susan was an Honor Graduate from Emory University receiving her Master’s degree in Public Health.
In 2005 Susan was appointed by Governor Perdue, as the first in her field to the Georgia Board of Registered Professional Nurses. In 2009 Susan was honored by LaGrange College by having her name added to the Wall of Outstanding Alumni. Mrs. Ayers’ nursing career spanned 29 years. She was honored to have served on many state and local boards and organizations. She is remembered as a mentor to many, and as a committed nurse in this community. She retired in 2011 as Director of Nursing Services from District Four Health Services.
Above all else those who were privileged to have known Susan know she was most of all devoted to her faith, family, friends and commitment as a nurse.
Susan is survived by her husband of 36 years, John N. Ayers. She is also survived by her daughter Rachel Edge (Bryan) and their two daughters Anna and Mollie, of Trion, GA. She is survived by a son Andrew Ayers of Cedartown, GA (fiancé, Julia Taff of Atlanta, GA). She is also survived by her mother Merle Fricks of Rome, GA, father Guy L. Phillips (Sharon) of Crossville, TN, and two brothers Chuck Fricks (Mary) of Cedartown, GA and Davey Phillips (Jackie) of McDonough, GA. She is the sister-in-law to Randy Ayers (Penny) of Carrollton, GA and Tom Ayers (Carol) of Cedartown, GA. Also surviving are a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at First Baptist Church on the Square with Dr. Paul Baxter and Reverend Paul Blair officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church on the Square.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to West Georgia Hospice or the charity of your choice in memory of Mrs. Susan Ayers.
