
Virginia, or Mimi as she was known to her grandchildren, was born in Atlanta on May 11, 1928. She was the daughter of Najeeb Ayoub Azar and Annie Simon Azar. She graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Atlanta and received a B.A. in Sociology from Shorter College in Rome, Georgia where she was a member of the Eunomian Society. Virginia modeled and was voted JP Allen’s 219 Girl of the Year (most stylish Atlantan)while in college. Upon graduating she began a career in social work where she cared specifically for the elderly. She married Eugene William Maloof on January 20, 1952. Virginia was a founding member of St. John’s Melkite Catholic Church where she served as president of the Women’s Auxiliary. She was a style icon, gourmet cook and the most devoted and faithful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Mrs. Maloof was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Eugene William Maloof. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Maloof Mansour of LaGrange and her husband Jerry Mansour. She has two loving grandchildren, Constance Maloof Mansour Thakker and her husband Amish and Gerard Eugene Mansour. She is also survived by her sister Mary Azar Maloof of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee.
Funeral services will begin on Tuesday morning with a burial in Atlanta at Westview Cemetery Abbey followed by a Mass to celebrate her wonderful life at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in LaGrange at 4:00 p.m. There will be a reception immediately following at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in LaGrange. There will be a rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m. also at Striffler –Hamby Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Mrs. Maloof.
