I am Anna’s first cousin.  I only saw Anna a few times when I was young.  I remember her as being a cute young woman.  Our mothers were sisters.  My mother talked a lot about Anna.  Mom visited as often as she could at their home in Grand Prairie.  I am sorry about the family’s loss and I enjoyed the tributes in the obituaries honoring Anna which she so deserves.  I am especially pleased to know that her children and grandchildren are so successful.  God bless you all.

As I’ve gotten older and received more “life experience” as they call it, the more I am able to appreciate what my parents, grandparents, etc have done for me, to have the opportunities that I have been given. The chance for many of us to go to college and receive degrees, so that our family tree obtains better jobs, is able to lay a better financial foundation for our kids, and so forth. Grandpa died young from his hard work & sacrifice day after day in the chemical plants, also building a house himself for maw maw and the kids to live in, living frugal to save for days ahead, essentially sacrificing himself in many ways for the betterment of family and future. This is the ultimate mark of a man to me, “sacrificing your own happiness for the happiness and betterment of your loved ones”. Maw maw played a diff role but essentially the same mindset. Raising her kids pushing education first and foremost, the education that she herself didn’t have the opportunity to receive, or get the job she desired, or doing other things she may have wanted individually but gave up for her kids, who gave us grandkids the opportunities that we all have received. We are all connected, we are all “on the same team” in many ways, we are pushing our family tree up the ladder in life, so that the next generations can carry the torch onward. So more than specific moments that il remember, I’m always grateful for the character they had, the love they gave to us, and the sacrifices they made for all of us. 

One memory that sticks with me is in her later years, when my dad told me maw maw got “lost” in her own yard while she worked doing chores outside. Her eyesight obviously failed her on the back end of her life. But what sticks out to me in this story, is the pride, or drive, sprinkled in with possible stubbornness haha that she refused to not do her work even then, she was going to do her damnedest, that is the “Meche” gene—work ethic, the drive, the pride to “get it done”.  Love y’all.

I’m going to miss being able to talk to Grandma. 

When you spoke to her, she was always fully present and invested. Her frequently offered advice and words of caution were from a place of wisdom. 

I will miss the joyous relief that she would express when you told her things were going well, which would usually be in the form of a, “that’s good cher.” 

Now that she has past, I see that I took her personality and heart for granted, as if it were the norm, because it was what I had grown up with. Not everyone is blessed to have a grandmother like her, and I am grateful she was part of my life.

My memories of Mamaw are those of which we should all be so lucky to have of a grandparent.  She was always warm, welcoming, supportive, and so, so proud of myself and all of her grandchildren.  I loved sitting around her kitchen table, snacking on boudin and drinking coffee from far too young of an age. I loved spending time in her seemingly endless backyard that had a garden, a boat, and, at one time, an RV. Her house was kind and familiar--I knew I'd see pictures of myself and my cousins resting on the china cabinet, that there would be treats in the fridge or a nearby cookie tin, that there would always be a container of peanuts to snack on in the backseat of her car, and that there was a framed picture of Jesus in her bedroom. My memories are fond of visiting Lake Charles because of all these things, but mostly because it was dedicated time that we spent as a family, something Mamaw cherished so much.  We will all miss her and are so grateful to have had her as our matriarch.  I am so happy that she is resting and celebrating in the peace of Jesus with my grandfather and her siblings who went before her.

It is hard to express how much mamaw meant to me and to us all.
 
I remember once when I was little, I stayed with mamaw and papaw while my parents were on vacation. They didn’t have cable, only a huge antenna on a pole near the shed. I wanted to watch cartoons – but they weren’t coming in clearly. Mamaw made papaw go outside to change the antenna. It makes me laugh now to think of it – there was no way for papaw to know which way to turn the antenna without being able to see the TV – so mamaw was inside looking at the tv yelling “turn it more” “turn it back” as the two of them worked together like Lucy Ricardo & Ethel Mertz. Little me had no idea what to make of this production, but I think it exemplifies the attitude they had – to just get things done.

I remember an old tin coffee pot. Holidays and family visits always involved a lot of coffee. There was always coffee – morning, noon, and night – brewed strong. Mamaw never threw anything away, even when she didn’t use it anymore. She had this old, banged up, tin coffee pot. It was really just two parts – a bottom pot with a spout, and a top part with holes in the bottom – add coffee to the top and pour in boiling water, then the coffee would drip down. I remember wanting to help make the coffee – so she rummaged around her cabinets and pulled out this little tin coffee pot. She gave me the old grounds from the previous pot to put in it, and tap water to put in the top so I could make coffee too while she made a fresh pot.  

Most of all, I remember what she wanted for her children and her grandchildren. She and papaw wanted all of us to have more opportunities for education and for a future, than they had. Her life’s work was all of us, and she was successful. All of us stand as a testament to the success and meaning of her life. We can take comfort in that, and that she is finally reunited with papaw after so many years. 

Goodbye Mamaw, you are at peace now – you will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.


To all the family, my sincere condolences. I know I was not her blood relative, but she and Eddie always made us feel like we were.  I always felt comfortable around them.  Great people, great woman.  I know that she will be missed by her family, but you know she is now with the Lord and at peace.

She is survived by her daughters, Judy Lindheim (Leonard) of San Antonio, Texas, Brenda Chedotal (Joseph) of Kenner, Louisiana, Carolyn Roy (Dennis) of Houston, Texas and her son, Eddie P. Meche (Marla) of Lafayette, Louisiana. Additionally, she is survived by her sisters, Betty Ardoin (Milburn), Delores Guillot and her brother-in-law, Clifton Lavergne. She has seven grandchildren, Dr. Brian Roux, Hillary Stephens, Tyler Meche, Phillip Meche, Ethan Meche, Harrison Roy, and Elliot Roy. She has two great-grandchildren, Nora Meche and Brody Stephens.
