She was a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a longtime resident of Lake Charles. She was the founder of Associated Louisiana Artists and a past board member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha sorority, MLK Coalition, and Twelfth Night Revelers. Anne was an alumnus of Penn State University and McNeese University, where she taught art classes.
Anne generously donated her talent to many non-profit organizations. She served as an artist for the SW LA Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. She designed and painted several Gators on the Geaux for the Lake Charles Symphony. She was active in downtown Lake Charles development and helped save the Old Central School, which is now the Arts and Humanities Council. She was awarded the coveted “Keystone Award” in 2007. She has illustrated many children’s books, as well as writing and illustrating a book on portrait painting. Her biography has been included in Who’s Who in American Women, Who’s Who in Design, American Artists, and the Encyclopedia of Living Artists, among others.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David Dentler, Sr.; her father and mother, Bailey Kent and Anna Schaefer; three brothers, Curtis, Harry, and Merle Barrett; sister, Betty Barrett Batko; and her aunt, Beatrice Baker.
Surviving are her five precious children: four sons, David Dentler, Jr; son, Jeremy; Gary Morgan, Jr, wife Susan, children, Ashley and Brittany; Joseph Dentler, wife Bobbi, children, Joshua, Joseph, and James; Mitchell Morgan, wife Sandy, children, Matthew, Christopher, and Jessica; daughter, Sherree Fontenot, husband Ricky, children, Jamie and Logan; and great-grandchildren Isabella and Jesse, as well as many nieces and nephews and her devoted church family, Lakewood Bible Fellowship.
Visitation will be at Hixson Funeral Home, 3001 Ryan Street between 9am and 11am on Saturday, April 22, followed by a celebration of life at 11:30am led by Pastor Jonathon Brown from Lakewood Bible Fellowship.
