Berkman was born in the Lake Charles area on July 9, 1938 to father Johnny Bertrand and mother Eva Bertrand. He grew up hunting and fishing and continued to be an avid outdoorsman throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Bertrand; children Ronnie Bertrand; Tammie Richard; Carol Sigler; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A burial service will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6325 Common St., Lake Charles, Louisiana on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 1 pm. Father Paul Jussen will officiate.
