Bernard Degeyter

He was a lifelong resident of Southwest Louisiana. B.J. was born the only child to Bernard Sr. and Philomen Degeyter on October 19, 1939 in Jennings LA. They later moved to Welsh LA, where he was raised. He married Mary Louise Frederick June 25, 1960, and they raised their family in the Iowa area where he was a rice and soybean farmer. He then retired and lived in Moss Bluff. B.J. enjoyed carpenter work and building projects.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years; sons, Brian Degeyter and wife Denise of Iowa LA, Bennett Degeyter and wife Dee of Moss Bluff LA; daughter, Charlotte D. Martin and husband Christopher of Moss Bluff; grandchildren Erica and husband Timmy Guidry of Iowa LA, Lori Martin and Brandon Degeyter both of Moss Bluff LA; great granddaughter, Kyler Guidry.

B.J. is preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles July 21, 2017 from 4pm until 8pm with a rosary prayed at 6pm. Visitation will resume July 22, 2017 at the funeral home until time of service. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2pm at St Theodore Catholic Church.
