OBITUARY

Carolyn Masar

March 9, 1949 – July 11, 2022
Obituary of Carolyn Masar
IN THE CARE OF

J. E. Hixson & Sons

Carolyn Sosnovik Masar, born on March 9, 1949 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey passed from this life on July 11, 2022.

The daughter of proud Polish parents, Theodore and Helen Sosnovik, Carolyn was raised on the family dairy farm in Hope, New Jersey with her beloved siblings, Genevieve, Diana, and Frank. She dearly held onto precious memories of living on the farm, playing in Beaver Brook, and visiting her Grandma Mary.

Carolyn graduated from Belvedere High School in 1967. She married Paul in 1968, and they started a family shortly thereafter. In 1980, she moved with her husband and daughters to Sulphur, Louisiana where they soon made lifelong friends who became family. Hired by Conoco-Vista in 1980, she was one of the first women operators in the area. Carolyn remained employed there until 2004, retiring as a top operator for Sasol.

Retirement afforded Carolyn the ability to travel the world with her dear sisters and husband, embarking on many adventures including meeting relatives in Poland, eating freshly caught sushi in Japan, taking hot air balloon trips in New Zealand, and spending time with dear friends, Karin and Ib and family, in Denmark. She was also able to be a support system for those who survive her including her husband of 54 years, Paul; daughters, Meredith and Jennifer; son-in-law, Russell; and granddaughters, Caroline and Annabella, and dear friend, Kitty.

Her love for gardening, PBS, and beach trips lives on in her daughters; her sense of social justice, appreciation of nature, and unique sense of humor survives in her daughters and granddaughters; and Carolyn’s unconditional love for her family and friends will endure through all their lives.

The family would like to thank the skilled medical team who cared for her at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center including Dr. Shubham Pant. They would also like to thank the medical team at Harbor Hospice for the compassionate care they provided her and her family.

To honor her wishes, she asks that those who loved her remember her in their laughter and to see her in the clouds. The family will hold a private memorial and asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.JEHixson.com for the Masar family.
