Chelsey was born November 30, 1985, quickly becoming the most cherished gift to her parents, Lady Leah and Glenn. They often spoke of the joy she brought to that time in their lives, an unexpected gift and blessing from God. They could not imagine what life would have been like without their precious Chelsey. They spent each summer trekking through the mountains of Colorado together, and during the rest of the year she danced through the studio with Lady Leah or watched tv with Glenn as he laid his head on his football.
As a young child, Chelsey spent many blissful hours with her grandparents, Alvin and Reba Lafargue. They would look on, adoringly, as she jumped on their mini trampoline and sang impromptu songs. Chelsey’s “Pa” delighted in serving her childhood favorites of Totino’s pizza and cherry ice cream. She loved her cousins and the many hours they spent splashing and floating in Big Lake, playing games, and laughing through it all.
Chelsey graduated from Hamilton Christian Academy and attended McNeese State University. In college, God introduced her to the love of her life, Amos Orr, while attending the Passion Conference in Atlanta, Georgia with Trinity Baptist Church in 2007. In a packed arena filled with 20,000 college Christians, there was an instant spark. Fostering a long-distance relationship between Indiana and Louisiana, Chelsey and Amos found themselves engaged after 3 months of meeting and married on Dec. 20, 2008.
Chelsey had a passion for children. If she was in the room, children were drawn to her. She was an incredible, loving babysitter to countless nieces and nephews who adored her. That gift led to her eventual work being a nanny, working at a day care, and substitute teaching part time. She always had a heart for children. It was her dream to become a mother.
That dream came true in 2013 when she and Amos were blessed with the first of three children, Emmett. In 2015, they had their second son, Elliott, just prior to moving to New Orleans. Chelsey loved that this new adventure afforded her the opportunity of staying at home to care for her children, watching them grow and develop. She was the perfect complement to Amos, with her natural talent for home cooking and managing the kids. In 2017, God blessed Chelsey and Amos with a daughter, Lady Eliza, whom she named after her beloved mother. Chelsey was so excited to have a girl to dress up, especially in the largest hairbows she could find. Chelsey and Amos were led by God back to her hometown of Lake Charles in 2018, where they settled down in a beautiful neighborhood to raise their children. Chelsey always put her family first and poured her heart and soul into each of them. She loved her children with all her heart, and time spent with them became the focus of her life. The simple things brought joy to Chelsey: watching the kids play and grow, celebrating each accomplishment(no matter how small), listening to Elliott sing KLOVE songs in the car, helping Emmett grow in school to reach his potential, playing any number of games with Eliza on the floor of the living room, a birthday party, a family adventure to the beach in Cameron…she delighted in the simple moments. They were enough.
Chelsey is preceded in death by her parents, Lady Leah and Glenn Hathaway and is survived by her husband, Amos Orr; her children, Emmett Orr (7), Elliott Orr (5) and Eliza Orr (3); her siblings William Glenn Hathaway III, M.D. (Kay Hathaway), Heidi Tanner, Kisler Hathaway (Chris Sannella), Lady Holly Hathaway (Andy Kaough); aunt Patricia Hayes; in laws Pat & Sheri Orr, brothers-in-law Andrew Orr(Christina) and Aaron Orr(Brittany); nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss Chesley very much.
