Claire attended high school at St. Joseph Academy, and got a bachelor’s degree in education at Loyola University, and taught first grade for a few years, all in New Orleans. She married Joseph James Regan in 1950, and the two of them raised their family of eight children in Sulphur, Louisiana and Lake Charles. When their youngest child started school, Claire went back to teaching, at Riverside/Combre Elementary School. She later got a master’s degree in education from McNeese State University. She retired from teaching in 1993. Claire and Joe were married for 58 years.

Claire had twenty-five grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and twenty-three great-great-grandchildren.
Claire, or Memere as she was known to her grandchildren, was a loving mother to all. In recent years, as her memories were increasingly lost to dementia, she retained her humor and sweet nature, and her enduring Catholic faith. She was cared for with great love by her daughter, Mary Ann Broughton, allowing her to remain in her home.
