Derald Dean Myers, age 85, went to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of Monday, August 05, 2024, and so shall he ever be with the Lord. He was born in Jennings, LA, on April 11, 1939.
His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Myers (Mary Thelma LeDoux Myers). He had a gift for singing and leading worship and began using that gift from an early age. After high school graduation in Jennings, he went to Winchester, KY, to attend Southeastern Christian College for two years and then began to take classes at McNeese while working in Lake Charles at Hoffer's Men's store. He joined the Naval Reserve and went to the US Naval Hospital Corps School in San Diego for training in 1964. There he was selected to receive the "Military Order of the World Wars Award" for excellence. This award noted exemplary character and attitude as well as "Your sympathetic care of the sick and injured." His two-year active duty was completed at the Naval Hospital at Subic Bay in the Philippines where many of the patients were those injured in Vietnam.
Derald Myers and Peggy Ward were married in 1966 in Jennings, LA. Derald completed his college degree while working at Love's Men's Store in downtown Lake Charles. He worked for a time as a sales associate for Louisiana Office Systems. He was with Pumpelly Oil Company for a number of years as a sales associate and manager of the automated fuel program. He retired from Pumpelley's in 2004. Later that year Derald and Peggy moved to Branson, MO, where they attended Faith Life Church. Derald worked part-time in the Human Resources Department at Silver Dollar City. Since returning to Lake Charles they have worshipped with and are members of Trinity Baptist Church.
Throughout his life, Derald used his talent and love of Christian gospel music to glorify the Lord and to express his thanksgiving for the many blessings of life. The most cherished blessings, of course, were his marriage of 57 years and the children and grandchildren he loved. As we read in Psalms 127 and 128: Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord. The Lord bless you all the days of your life. Yes, may you see your children's children.
Those who remain to cherish his memory include his wife of 57 years, Peggy Myers; children, Melissa Myers Herring (Ed) of Folsom, LA, Derric Ward Myers (Beth) of Little Elm, TX, and Devin Dean Myers (Alex) of Lake Charles, LA; six grandchildren, Nicholas and Samuel Herring, Taylor and Ali Myers, and Daniel and Daxton Myers; one sister, Lacue Myers Griffin; nephew, Dr. Gabe Griffin; niece, Abby Griffin Ruffenach (Peter) all of Tusla, OK. and nephew, Brian David Walker(Blair) of Dallas, TX.
The family would like to welcome relatives and friends to Hixson Funeral Home Chapel of Lilies for visitation on Friday, August 09, 2024, beginning at 4 pm until 8 pm. Visitation will resume at 8 am on Saturday, August 10, 2024, until the time of service at 10 am. Pastor Ed Herring will lead the Celebration of Life Service.
A graveside service will follow at Prien Memorial Cemetery.
