Dorothy Bivens Assunto Lake Charles - Dorothy Bivens Assunto, 85, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on April 2, 2014 in a local care center. Born in Jennings, LA on January 18, 1929, she is survived by her husband of 67 years, Fred Assunto of Lake Charles and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Bivens. Married in 1947, Fred and Dorothy moved to Glendale, CA where they worked together in the retail business for men and women's apparel. In their spare time, you could always find them either on the golf course or tennis courts, the two sports they passionately loved. After moving back to Lake Charles, Dorothy was employed at Men's Discount Shop, her husband's family business. Over the next 40 years, they operated retail stores in Houston, Dallas and Longview before settling back in Lake Charles. Besides tennis and golf, her hobbies included sewing, cooking and listening to jazz music with her husband, an accomplished saxophone musician. The family extends special gratitude to caregiver, Lavonda Vassal and close friend, Charles Dodd for their endless love and support. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts given to Harbor Hospice of Lake Charles. Visitation will be Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 9:00am until 11:00am, followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00am at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com

What a truly wonderful lady.. Loved her stories and wonderful family meals she would provide when we would visit her and Uncle Fred. We will surely miss her. We praise God for her peaceful departure and knowing she is with her Lord at this time. Prayers are with Uncle Fred at this time.
