With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Gibson “Gibb” Myers Smith Sr., who peacefully went to be with his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at the age of 75. He was surrounded by the love of family and friends in his final moments.
Gibb was born on October 16, 1949, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He graduated from Sulphur High School in 1969, where he was active in Future Farmers of America. He later attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA, and was a proud member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.
A devoted member of Livingway Pentecostal Church, Gibb lived a life rooted in faith, family, and the outdoors. He was an electrician for the local union 861 and a commercial shrimper, owning his own boat for many years. Gibb had a passion for hunting, classic hot rods, and raising Catahoula Cur dogs. His love for animals and the outdoors was only matched by the deep love he had for his family.
Gibb is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Theresa LaRocca Smith; his children, Cassie, Gibson Jr. (Jenna), Chantilly, and Victoria (Jamie); and his faithful dog, Bleu. He was a proud grandfather to Kyle (Roxy), Kaliegh, and Korra, and a great-grandfather to Lucca. He is also survived by his siblings, Sheila, Mark, Connie, and Wayne, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, E.B. “Doc” Smith and Juanita Burt Smith.
Gibb will be remembered for his big heart, his love of family, and the way he brought joy and laughter into the lives of those who knew him.
