Harriette D Dyson

She was born to Inez and Arthur LaCour in Alexandria, La. where she grew up. She began to play the piano in her home church, Calvary Baptist, when she was 10 years old. She graduated from Bolton High School, attended Louisiana College and graduated from Northwestern State University with a Master’s Degree in Music Education.

She moved to Cameron, La. upon graduation to become the itinerant music teacher for Creole High School and Grand Chenier. Here she met the love of her life, Larry Dyson. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. After they married they survived the tragedy of Hurricane Audrey to rebuild their lives in Cameron until their retirement from their family owned business where she served as General Manager at the Dyson Lumber Company.

She was the pianist and choir director for First Baptist Church in Cameron for many years serving alongside of Larry. She taught piano to countless students through the years. On retirement she and Larry moved to Lake Charles to be a full time grandmother. This was her joy for the last 17 years. She was an active member at First Baptist Church Lake Charles where she continued to use her musical talents playing the piano in the Senior Adult Department.

She was nominated Citizen of the Year in Cameron Parish. She was also a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity and a member of the Rainbow Girls.

She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Larry Dyson, daughters Christi Watson and husband John of Sulphur, La., and Laurie Mayeux and husband Jimmy of Lake Charles, La., five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday May 5, 2016 from 5pm to 9pm at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles and will resume Friday morning at 9am till time of service at First Baptist Church of Lake Charles. Funeral service will be held at 10am Friday May 6, 2016 at the church. Burial at Prien Cemetery will follow. Rev. Daryl Spencer and Rev. Lloyd Carrol will officiate.
