

Helen Cooke, age 93, of Lake Charles passed away on Sunday October 4, 2015. She was born on February 18, 1922 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Charles N. Kendall and Helen Bland Davies Kendall. Helen was a member of the University United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women’s group. Helen was a very generous and kind mother, friend, whose family nicknamed her fleecy. She was always fun to be around and always kept up with everyone’s birthday by sending them cards. Helen enjoyed life and loved reading, traveling, her Sunday school class, being active in her church and family gatherings but she especially loved spending time with her family and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Helen is survived by her Son, Gordon Glen (Ann) Cooke, her daughter, Susan Elaine (Neal) Gerhart, her grandchildren, Jennifer A. Hay, Janine F. Gerhart, Amanda L. Wright, April E. Pitre, Alison Wagoner, Holly Cooke, Samantha Cooke and Timothy Cooke, she also had 5 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Charles N. Kendall and Helen Bland Davies Kendall, her husband, Thomas Cooke, her son Paul Douglas Cooke and also 7 siblings.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, October 7, 2015 from 12:00pm – 3:00pm at Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles. A Funeral Service Celebrating Helen’s life will immediately follow visitation, at 3:00pm in the funeral homes south chapel. Pastor David Dewitt will officiate. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery in Lake Charles. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Hixson Funeral Home in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
