The daughter of Marc and Aulenia Guillory Fuselier, Helen was born and raised on a ranch in Fuselier’s Cove near Elton, Louisiana. The youngest child of a musical family, Helen grew up two-stepping to the rhythms of the guitar, fiddle, and accordion of her family’s band. She embraced her Cajun language and culture throughout her life. Her family instilled in her a reverence for God, an intense love for her family and friends, a strong work ethic, and a joie de vivre.
Like other members of her generation, Helen experienced the challenges of the Depression and World War II. Her life altered forever by these events, Helen moved from her beloved Elton to Iowa, Louisiana, and then to Lake Charles. While working as a PBX operator for Shell Oil Company in Lake Charles, Helen met and married the love of her life, Claiborne Robinson. She and Claiborne made their home in Lake Charles and remained soul mates until his death 62 years later. Their deep devotion to each other was evident to their 3 daughters and to all who knew them.
Helen’s family was her top priority. In addition to being a loving mother and wife, she remained a loyal daughter and was the primary caretaker for her parents until their deaths. Nevertheless, she always made time for her husband and children. She encouraged her children to strive for excellence in academics and instilled in them the importance of a good education. Consequently, her three daughters became teachers.
In addition to Claiborne, Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Percy and Claude Fuselier; and her sister, Pearl LeBlanc. She will be dearly missed by her daughters and their spouses: Susan and Darrell Morris of Lake Charles; Rebecca and David Eccles of Baton Rouge; and Mary Kay and Robert Tête of Lake Charles, as well as by her 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Rosewood Nursing Facility and to Dr. Mark LaFuria for their kindness and excellent care. In addition, they would like to recognize the countless volunteers who share their time and talents with the nursing home residents.
