Hilda Idell Fontenot, age 94, of Sulphur, Louisiana passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2022. She was born to parents Benjamin and Lottie Eggleston on September 17, 1928 in Lake Charles, LA.
Hilda was a nurse aid for over 20 years and for the majority worked at (and retired from) Holly Hill Care Center. Hilda loved the outdoors and she had a flower garden. She had a small pond with concrete statues that she would repaint every year. She loved to mow her grass and had an old fashioned lawn mower (the kind with no motor) that her son had to confiscate from her in her 70's because she refused to quit mowing. She was known to be very strong willed or "ornery" by those that loved her.
Hilda loved her family fiercely and raised 5 boys and one girl on her own. They always were finding ways to keep her busy. She attended Southside Church of Christ in Sulphur, LA. She was very devout in her faith and was active within the church.
She is welcomed into heaven by her parents; husband, C.J. Fontenot; brothers, Ray Eggleston and Frank Eggleston; son, Stevens Lee Hardy; and daughter, Carol Ann Hardy.
Those left to cherish her memory are sons, Robert Hardy and wife Roxanne, Larry Hardy and wife Lynn, Ray Hardy and wife Regina, Keith Hardy; 17 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren and 2 honorary grandchildren and their families, as well as a host of family and friends who loved her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to High Hope Care center for their exceptional care of Ms. Hilda.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Hilda's name to her favorite charity: St. Jude's Children's Hospital
