

Homer was born July 11, 1924 to Effie Lyles and Diogenis "Dee" Winfrey in Northlett, Arkansas. He lived most of his life in Lake Charles. Mr. Winfrey was a member of IBEW local 861 for over forty years and served one term as Business Agent.
He was a World War II Veteran and received a Purple Heart for wounds received at the Battle of the Bulge.
He loved watching football and baseball on TV along with reading western novels. He also took pride in his yard and enjoyed gardening and yard work.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother A.Y. Winfrey and a sister Barbara Ogea Savant.
Mr. Winfrey is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Gladys Royal Winfrey; one daughter, Carolyn Scalisi and husband Terrell of Carlyss; three grandchildren, Tracy Opfer and husband Doug of Flowery Branch, GA, Michael Cradeur and Jebb Cradeur and wife Kelli of Lake Charles; five great grandchildren, Tanner Volman, Taylor Barbry, Seth, Lilly Kate and Sammy Cradeur; two brothers and two sisters, Ernest, Jerry, Doris and Jeanne Winfrey along with many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014, at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Brother Ronnie Estess will officiate. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and resumes Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
