John “Johnny” Kermit Fleury, our beloved and faithful son, brother, and friend passed away peacefully on October 22, 2010, at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans due to complications following heart transplant surgery on June 15. He was born July 18, in Lake Charles to Clyde R. and Goldie Rosterman Fleury. He graduated from McNeese State University with a degree in accounting. He lived and worked in Atlanta, Georgia for 14 years before returning home to Lake Charles. He was currently employed by the Dept. of Health and Hospitals of Louisiana as a Supervisor of Long Term Care. He loved playing bridge and was a member of the Lake Charles Bridge Club. He was a history buff and enjoyed traveling to Europe, especially France, where he explored his French heritage. Following a serious attack in January, he was transferred to Tulane Medical Center where a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) was implanted as a bridge to heart transplant. He was always positive, and never gave up hope throughout his illness. His doctors were amazed at his perseverance. He is survived by his mother, Goldie, of Lake Charles; sisters, Janice Wagster of Lake Charles; Helen Fleury and Diane Ellsworth of Oklahoma City, OK; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Linda McCoy of Parker, CO; aunt, Ruth Schoeman of Atlanta, GA; uncle, Robert Rosterman of Chicago, IL; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends and his beloved pets, Pete, CryBaby and Jessie. He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde R. Fleury. The family extends special thanks to Dr. Michael Turner, St. Patrick’s Hospital, Dr. Theirry LeJemtel and dedicated staff, Tulane Heart Failure and Transplant Dept. and the third floor nurses and technicians at CCU and SICU. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 27, followed by a memorial service.
