Joni Carol Jordan of Lake Charles, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, August 4, 2019.

Born in Fort Worth, TX in 1956 (but never aging beyond 39!) Joni was raised in Kilgore, Texas. Her father was an oil wildcatter and moved the family to Lake Charles to found Central Crude when she was a junior in high school. Joni lived in Lake Charles for the remainder of her life but was always a girl from Texas; she never lost her twang, love of a good pair of boots, and lifelong love of the Dallas Cowboys.

Joni had a style all her own and loved dressing up for any occasion whether it was red, white & blue day at her childrens’ school or a trip to the grocery store. Cowboy boots and all, she would lighten up any room she entered with a big smile and an even bigger laugh. Joni never met a stranger; she had a heart of gold.

Joni was an instructor at Aerobics Plus back in the days of leg warmers, sweatbands and high cut leotards, attending aerobics conferences internationally. She also found employment as a model and was a featured dancer for Glenda Moss Academy.

Joni loved horses and dancing, but most of all she was a mom… the kind of mom who dressed to the nines for school pickup, devotedly nursed her children to health, and loved Christmas mornings with matching pajamas, delicious homemade quiches, and lots of presents. Joni also adopted her kids’ friends, picking them up from school with afternoon snacks and taking deep pride in their accomplishments. She was loving, caring, and sometimes spoiled her kids a bit; for Joni, they were her everything.

According to her granddaughter, Joni was a dreamer, beautiful on the inside and out, sweet, intelligent and kind to animals, who loved ice cream with strawberries and gave good presents. “Please pray for my Gammie.”

Joni is survived by her son Starr & daughter-out-law Brittany of Bozeman, MT; her daughter Ashlee, granddaughter Marlee & son-in-law John of Lake Charles, LA; son Colin & daughter-in-law Lauren of Houston, TX; her brother Steve & sister-in-law Sandie of Lake Charles, and their children Courtney & George. Joni is predeceased by her parents, George & Marcia Jordan, and her beloved pomeranian, Scruffy, as well as a large collection of other well-loved and remarkably long-lived pets. Special thanks to Bridget Richie for her loving care.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at the Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Burial will follow in Prien Memorial Park Cemetery in Lake Charles.

To Joni’s kids.. it will come as no surprise that your mom was one the most spectacular precious people I ever met. We were junior high friends. I loved her. She was a true friend. She Had the most infectious laugh and sparkle in her eye. I have So many special memories of times spent running around Green Hills. Her dancing to Green Eyed Lady at the jr high talent show. Listening to Crosby stills and Nash and acting out the parts with silly hand motions. She wore a Saint Christopher like no other. Yes she loved being dressed to the nines even then. Fish net hose in every color. Leather hippy purses that she got for Christmas from her aunt cloie in dallas? I was a bridesmaid in her first wedding. I tell you that so that you know we were very dear friends. The white outfit she wore as she left her wedding reception was over the top beautiful. She was the girl we all dreamed to be. I loved reading the description of your mom in the obituary. It just was a perfect tribute. I am so sad to know she is gone but the memories of Joni Jordan will live with us all .. forever. If you ever want to hear stories about her. Please call me. 602-430-3928. Your mama was just beyond an icon with the humility of Saint.

Please accept my tearful condolences to all Joni's family and friends. I was one of her first childhood friends in elementary School in Kilgore Texas. We slept at each other's homes on weekends, went to the "Kiddie Show" at the Texas Theater on Saturday mornings often, and danced tap, ballet and jazz together all through those early years. I remember her big brother Steve , who was always nice to me, her mother's gentle southern drawl and the smell of her Cadillac when we'd ride home from school together. And now, every once in a while, when I travel in a rented car, that same familiar smell blows out of the air conditioner vents...and then, just for a moment... Joni and I are still 7 years old...and together once again...

My heart aches for the family of Joni...she was such a beautiful, sweet and kindhearted person. Forever present and helpful in the activities and interests of her children and their school and teammates. All the while quietly battling a debilitating and painful medical condition from behind a great big smile with an abundance of courage. Now she is wrapped in the loving arms of God and her parents. I will always remember her with deep fondness.

So many memories of Joni from her early childhood through her adulthood. They all bring a smile to my face. One in particular was when she asked me to be maid of honor in her wedding in 1985. We hung out at Marcia’s pool all day and I ran home to feed my horses, was stung by a bee, administered twice the dose on the Epi pen and ended up in the ER on the way to the Church. Joni was so afraid I was going to be late! I made it just in time to get into that pink dress!

My deepest sympathies to Joni’s family. I am so sad to hear of her passing. We grew up together in the same neighborhood, were best friends in junior high, and I was one of her bridesmaids. She was so beautiful inside and out. Not one June 2nd has passed without a fond and fun memory of her. So sorry for your loss.

My sincere condolences to Joni’s entire family. I graduated with Joni and even though I never was a close friend with her she always greeted everyone with that Beautiful Smile. She was an Angel among us way back then. May she Rest In Peace ✝️🌹
