

Joseph “Bud” Broussard, loving husband and uncle, was born to parents Raymie Broussard and Alex Theriot Broussard on October 20, 1919 in Grand Chenier, Louisiana; and he died on September 9, 2011 surrounded by friends and family. Mr. Broussard fought a long and a courageous battle with diabetes. He was 91 years old.
Mr. Broussard was a staff sergeant and assistant crew chief in World War II for four years servicing among other planes, the B-17G bomber with the 8th Army Air Corp, 306 Bomb Group, 367th squadron. Mr. Broussard’s expert mechanical skills were assigned to service a plane affectionately called “Skipper” which flew 72 bombing missions without a single aborted flight. Upon returning from service in World War II, Mr. Broussard worked for Crain Brothers and then finished his working career as a postal carrier.
Mr. Broussard was a life long member of St. Eugene Catholic Church. He enjoyed alligator trapping, duck hunting, shrimping on his dock and many other outdoor sports especially when accompanied by his nephew Carl Broussard. When his health permitted he loved to travel, but he was always anxious to return to his beloved Grand Chenier.
Mr. Broussard was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings, Estelle Theriot, Wayne Montie, and Thomas Broussard. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ada Ricks Broussard “Miss Ricks,” his nephew Carl Broussard, Carl’s daughter Jennifer Broussard Conner and Carl’s three grandchildren Taylor Clement, Malori Broussard, and Drake Conner. He is also survived by Mona Broussard Hilliard and Chad Broussard, Ronald Theriot and his wife Marlene Theriot and Ronnie’s children Alex Theriot and Andrea Theriot Ross and Ronald’s grandchild Gwyneth Ross. He is also survived by his niece Billie Ricks Driver Ballengee; her husband Bruce Ballengee; and grandchildren, Jason Ballengee, Brooke Ballengee, and William Wilson Ballengee.
Mr. Broussard’s family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Brenda Clark, a dear friend and many year caretaker, Nedia Trahan, a devoted nurse, and Oreilla Abshire, a family friend and caretaker.
Visitation will be at St. Eugene Catholic Church Hall in Grand Chenier, Sunday September 11 from 1pm-9pm. A rosary will be held Sunday night in the church hall at 7:00pm. The church hall will be open for visitation on Monday at 9am until the time of the funeral service. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am Monday September 12 at St. Eugene Catholic Church, followed by the burial at Chenier Perdue (Theriot) Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Hamilton Dixon, Preston Dixon, Bruce Ballengee, Jason Ballengee, Lonnie Harper, Vince Theriot, Ronald Broussard, Alex Theriot and Tony Conner.
