Linda Roya Martin, 81, passed away Monday, August 31, 2026, following a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Linda was born March 5, 1945, in Gueydan, Louisiana, to Felix and Amelian Hargrave Roya.
Linda, best known as “Maw maw,” was full of fiery attitude and quick wit, but it was her compassion, wisdom, and selflessness that made her loved by so many. Her devotion to her family knew no bounds, perhaps most profoundly shown in the 13 years she devoted to caring for her son following his devastating injuries that left him comatose. She will be remembered for her heart-to-heart chats over a cup of coffee, her love of reading, and her dedication to her daily newspaper.
A Gold Star Mother, Linda was preceded in death by her son, PFC Jonathan Martin; her parents, Felix and Amelian Roya; her siblings, Eugenia Brewington, Olivia McDaniel, Geneva LeJeune, John Roya, and Lawrence Roya; and her beloved feline companions, Mister and Gracie.
She is survived by her son, Jaime Martin (Corina), and his children, Gabrielle Martin LeBlanc, Sydney Hooper, Ashley Dempsey, and Bryce Dempsey; her son, David Martin (Shelly), and his children, Casey Blevins, Lexie Martin, Emily Martin, and Corey Martin; and her daughter, Laura Martin Matthews, and her children, Miranda Martin Monjaraz, Mathieu Martin, Ethan LeJeune, Kholinda Daigle, and Quincianna Daigle. Linda is also survived by nine great-grandchildren and her siblings, Clifford “C.J.” Roya and Dean Roya.
A Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at J.E. Hixson Funeral Home with a gathering from 10:00am to 1:00pm.
