Lori Jane Crosby, 63, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she was living. Lori was born March 16, 1961 in Las Vegas Nevada, to John Lynn and Virginia Peart.
Lori spent her formative years in Las Vegas, running track and tinkering with photography before graduating from Eldorado High School in 1979. After graduation, Lori worked for a time at Holy Cow Casino, and as a Cook for the school district, and she attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She eventually moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she found her true calling.
Lori began working as a Housekeeper for Hixson Funeral Homes in 2008, and as a person who had long been known to have a deep caring for others and their wellbeing, Lori soon recognized the Funeral Business as something she was destined to be a part of. So after working her way through mortuary school at Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston, Texas, Lori graduated with honors and returned to Hixson’s as the Funeral Director and Embalmer she was meant to be. Having lost a son not only at a young age but also tragically, she had what it took to become one of the best funeral directors in Southwest Louisiana. Her attention to detail, caring personality, and gentle touch were some of Lori's best qualities. Lori discovered that she was quite talented in the Prep Room, and she was proud of what she was capable of and it surely showed constantly, day in and day out. She touched so many lives, helping them through the darkest and most difficult times of their lives, and her presence will be deeply missed. As an inherently nurturing person, Lori quickly became the go to teacher, mentor and confidant to the new and upcoming funeral professionals, who all remember her fondly to this day.
Lori not only loved our community, but she deeply loved her family as well, enjoying spending time with them every chance she could, especially with her grandchildren. Be it watching a movie, sitting on the porch, chatting about the day’s events, or listening to them when they had a problem, Lori’s friends and family could always count on her undivided attention and genuine desire to help them. She also loved fishing, walking her dogs, having fun, and when time permitted, she enjoyed canning, sewing and baking as well.
Lori was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Angela Peart; her husband, James Crosby; and a son, Brian Sullivan.
She leaves many family members to mourn her passing, including a son, Daniel M. Sullivan and his wife Sheila; 2 daughters, Amy Pedraza and her husband Randy, and Jamie Brown and her husband Quincy; a step-daughter, Katlyn Crosby; 4 brothers, Edward Peart and his wife Laurel Jean, John Peart and his wife Lan, Joe Peart and his wife Christine, and Gerald Peart and his wife Rose; 1 sister, Susan Stott and her husband George, and 10 grandchildren, Cooper, Brian, Parker, Savannah, Camdyn, Emanuel, Andrea, Alexandra, Emilio and Neihamya.
