Martha Lavenia Thomas Fontenot, 94, of Moss Bluff, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on October 1, 1930, in Lake Charles, she was the daughter of Jefferson Davis and Martha Thomas.
Lavenia was a devoted member of St. Theodore Catholic Church in Moss Bluff, where she was active in the choir, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, and was a Eucharistic Minister. Through her involvement, she formed many cherished friendships, most notably with Jean Liptack, who remained by her side throughout the years.
She married the love of her life, John Preston Fontenot, in 1948, and together they built a family grounded in love, faith, and laughter. They were blessed with five children: Jerry, Carolyn, Preston, John, and Melvin. Lavenia was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who found joy in cooking, baking, spending time with her family, and watching her favorite soap operas.
Lavenia was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of 44 years, Preston Fontenot; and her sons, Preston and John.
She is survived by her children: Jerry Fontenot and wife Sandra, Carolyn Myers and husband Paul, and Melvin Charles Fontenot; her grandchildren: Kristi Fontenot, Chris and Stevey Myers, Jill, Ryan, John-John, and Holly Fontenot; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, Preston Blake Hebert.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at J.E. Hixson Funeral Home in the Chapel of Lily’s. A Rosary will be recited at 11:00 a.m., followed by a Scripture Service at 11:30 a.m., officiated by Rev. Aubrey Guilbeau. Burial will follow in Grand Lake Community Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to attend and share memories of Lavenia, who will be remembered for her warm heart, generous spirit, and steadfast faith. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
