Marvadine Jett Gilman, age 92, of Lake Charles, Louisiana peacefully passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family and friends on Tuesday, June 15, 2021. Marvadine was born November 23, 1928 in Shongaloo, La and was raised in Florien, La.
Marvadine held various jobs beginning at a young age - actually managing a grocery store at the age of 16. Fell in love with a soldier returning from WWII who took her job. She married him at 16 years of age and they had a long loving marriage until his passing in 2012.
She then worked selling life insurance until she realized her true passion was real estate. She began her real estate career at Paul Guillory Real Estate and then worked many years for Reinauer Real Estate. She was often a top producing agent receiving numerous awards and held positions within the Women's Real Estate Board.
Another passion was helping her dear friend, Glenda Moss, with dance recital programs and ticket sales. Being involved in this brought her great joy as she was able to visit with many friends. She loved her caregivers and enjoyed being chauffeured around town while she was their tour guide. Her biggest joy was having friends walking through her front door so she could offer them a cup of coffee and enjoy a good visit.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Debbie Watson (Frank) of Baton Rouge; son, Doug Gilman (Barbara) of Lake Charles; grandsons, Ryan Watson (Rebecca) of Metairie and Tyler Watson (Julie) of Baton Rouge; great-granddaughters, Amelia and Avery Watson.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George Franklin Gilman; parents, William Alfred Jett and Vallie Cook Jett; sisters, Irene Vollmer, Marjorie O'Hara, Billie Demeritt, Lorene Herr, and Shirley Roberts.
The family would like extend a special thank you to her caregivers, Christy Melancon and Dana Clements. Their love and care for her is deeply appreciated. The family also thanks Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care of Jennings.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation held at Hixson Funeral Home, Lake Charles, on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service, led by Bro. Drew Fontenot, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
